Can you sue someone for breaking off an engagement? In Gilbert and Sullivan’s comedic one-act opera Trial by Jury, it is considered a very serious offense! Edwin, tiring of his love for Angelina, has fallen in love with another and is hauled into court for breach of promise. Despite his protest, the jury and the judge have little sympathy for him. Edwin continues to dissuade Angelina from wanting to marry him and the judge puts him to the test. Finally, the judge, disgusted at the objections and eagerness to get away, offers Angelina his hand in marriage. Will she accept? Presented by the Berry College Opera and Musical Theatre Workshop.
