The Art & Architecture of Gaustavino Vaulting: from Berry College to the World
As a final Exhibit Talk celebrating “Palaces for the People: Guastavino and America’s Great Public Spaces” on view at The Martha Berry Museum, the speaker is fitting to be none other than John A. Ochsendorf, the current authority on the Guastavino family and their architectural contributions. The lecture will contextualize Berry’s Guastavino vaults with the architects’ global and lasting influence on structural engineering. Ochsendorf will address the mechanics and physical ingenuity of the Guastavino vault system, among other innovations, and explore the iconic aesthetics and artistry that Rafael Guastavino Sr. and Jr. achieved during the first half of the 20th century.
Ochsendorf will present his talk live from Boston, MA, via Zoom, and the program will run for 1 hour including a Q&A session at the end of the lecture.
