Lecture with Dr. David Ramsey: "Great Books and the Good Life"
The Department of Government and Evans School has invited Professor Ramsey, Berry College alumnus, professor of political philosophy and constitutional law--and former student and advisee of the late Dr. Peter Lawler--to offer a lecture on the nature, promise, and limitations of a well-designed liberal arts education--a central topic in Dr. Lawler's scholarship. We are offering this lecture to honor Dr. Lawler's legacy as a scholar and educator and champion of the liberal arts, and because the issues to be addressed in the lecture are of central and ongoing concern to Berry College's students and the identity of the college. The Great Books do not refer to the works of a single discipline, era, or class of persons; they refer to the hallmark intellectual literary achievements of humanity across all cultures and time and thus have widespread relevance to all members of the Berry community.
