About this Event
Berry College Nursing - Hosted by Partners in Health Engage. The event will feature a 45-minute self-defense class led by Shannon Bond, equipping participants with practical skills to enhance their personal safety. Following the class, a panel discussion will bring together leading experts in sexual assault prevention and survivor support, including Tia Wheelus and Kimberly King from the Sexual Assault Center of Northwest Georgia, Ashley Cloer, RN, SANE, from Hamilton Medical Center’s Forensic Unit, and Ashley Demonbreun-Chapman, Director of Student Well-being and Support at Berry College. The panel will provide an in-depth look at the services available in the Rome community to support survivors of sexual assault, educate attendees on risk reduction strategies, and offer crucial resources for those in need. By combining hands-on self-defense training with expert-led discussion, this event will empower attendees with both physical and informational tools to navigate issues of personal safety and advocacy. Designed to benefit all members of the campus community, the event will be particularly valuable for students seeking to enhance their self-protection skills, gain awareness of available resources, and engage in meaningful conversations about prevention and support. Whether participants are looking to learn self-defense techniques, understand how to support survivors, or become more informed about community resources, this event will provide an inclusive and impactful experience.
