Berry College Events

An Evening with Author Karla Cornejo Villavicencio Virtual Conversation, facilitated by Dr. Lossada (with Q&A)

The event is intended to shed light on a complex population--the undocumented--that is often demonized and/or rendered invisible even while Americans exploit and depend upon their labor and the struggles faced by undocumented students who are trying to break themselves and their families out of this cycle. Cornejo Villavicencio herself was undocumented until recently and, given that the Georgia has made it impossible for undocumented students to pursue higher education in the public university system, Cornejo Villavicencio will be able to speak on the experience of being an undocumented college student, something which Berry College students have expressed immense interest in. I have assigned The Undocumented Americans in a number of my classes, so I believe that this event will attract readers of the book, but it will also speak to people who may be interested in the subject, may have had some of the experiences mentioned in the book, and/or consider themselves allies.
