Roundtable Discussion on the Armistice that Ended World War I
This will be a roundtable discussion, with a moderator, on the armistice that ended World War I and related events. The actual centenary of the armistice is Sunday, 11 November, but since Sunday is not a good day for such academic events, we will hold this on Thursday, 8 November, from 11 a.m. to noon. The roundtable will consist mainly of discussion. Each presenter will be introduced and will be invited to make some prefatory remarks. The roundtable will then be thrown open to discussion. The discussion will be aimed at a general audience, to address both general questions and more detailed questions. One part of the appeal to a general audience will be the fact that this roundtable will take place around the time of two other on-campus events we are organizing: a talk by Dr. Erez Manela on Thursday evening, 7 November, titled “The Great War: A Global Perspective”, and a Sunday afternoon event where student researcher Beth Anne DeKeizer will present her research on Berry and WWI, including the showing of a documentary film she has produced. I should add that already we have had contacts with alumni regarding the centenary of the armistice and how Berry will mark the event. The organizer has specifically reached out to Berry P.R., alumni relations, the chaplain's office, the Evans School dean's office, and historic Berry regarding the 11 November afternoon event, and we will of course inform them of this event as well.
